Requirements

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 Equivalent.
• N3 Mechanical engineering.
• Mechanical Fitter or Fitter & Turner Trade Certificate.
• At least 3 years’ proven work-related experience
• Experience within the FMCG environment will be an advantage.
• Working knowledge of pneumatics, pumps, conveyors, shafts, sprockets, bearings, and gearboxes.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• A willingness to work overtime, shifts and weekends when required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Do start-up of all plant equipment and repair problems before commencement of production shifts.
• Perform maintenance in the Evisceration, Grading, Giblets and Heads & Feet Departments.
• Ensure that the equipment is washed, that damaged and broken machines and equipment is repaired according to company standards.
• Make sure that all safety parts are working and tested on a daily basis on all equipment.
• Ensure the relevant sections are mechanically ready for production at all times.
• Do maintenance on plant equipment on weekends as per shift roster and scheduled maintenance program.
• Ensure that check sheets are filled in daily and all deviations are reported to Planner and Mechanical Manager.
• Do breakdowns as per agreed on the whole plant where needed.
• Ensure machine failure and breakdowns are reported to the Mechanical Manager and recorded on the daily log sheet of production, and job cards are filled in correctly and signed off by production and maintenance.
• Ensure breakdowns are done thoroughly and respond to processing quickly with the correct tools and spares.
• Ensure that inspections are done as per job cards issued.
• Apply and enforce ISO / HACCP / Health & Safety Standards/ 20 Keys in the workplace.
• Complete all compulsory training interventions.
• Mentor apprentices to ensure they follow company and standard practices and processes.
• Perform any other duties as may be required by line managers.

• Ensure water and electricity readings are recorded on the check sheets at the correct intervals.
• Weekly tool checks are done on their team’s tools and recorded on the tools check sheet.
• Make sure staff on shift is properly trained in performing their functions and training needs are communicated to technical trainer and management.
• Make sure the Skills Matrix is up to date and work hand-in-hand with technical trainer.
• Ensure all employees always wear correct PPE.
• Apply and enforce ISO/ HACCP/ Occupational Health and Safety standards/ 20 Keys in the workplace.
• Must be knowledgeable about all other safety requirements.
• Responsible for Receiving, Air Chiller (3000 & 6000) and crate line and perform check sheets and maintenance in these areas.
• Perform any other duties as may be required by management.

• Authorize stores requisitions and ensure all requisitions as per approved schedules and frequencies.
• Optimizing cost savings and cost control in all departments by reducing consumption and waste on key operating cost components.
• Work with the shift processing manager to ensure accurate reporting and draw up SOP’s and quality standards for production plant.
• Co-ordinate and sign off all submission of all required documentation for inclusion in the information systems.
• Facilitate and coordinate the human resources function within the relevant department daily.
• Performs work inspections and checks for completeness of tasks.
• Optimize labour and supervision to ensure all personnel are utilized effectively and adjust needs as plant requirements change.
• Implement ongoing shop-floor system and measurement of all departments against set standards.
• Daily facility / equipment inspections and handovers between shifts in place.
• Operational planning and execution of production plan on daily basis.
